From London to Nairobi, via Dubai: The world’s best workspaces

The Contented Agency team is a multifaceted group of writers, project managers, business owners and designers who all have one thing in common: We work remotely.

Our global status means we get to search for and experience the best the world has to offer in workspaces. From the bustling and inspirational, to the uber zen and downright practical (across the UK all the way to Dubai, via Nairobi), check out the spaces that our team return to time and time again.

(And if anyone wanted to invite us as their Nasab guest, we wouldn’t say no).

Nairobi

  • Palett Café. This one’s garden set-up is oh so calm. You can totally channel your inner spirit as you’re working; nothing beats cranking away at briefs with your toes in the grass. The crew here also employs the hearing-impaired community, which seals the deal; we love a business committed to worthy causes!
  •  iHit. The ‘house of innovation and technology’ not only provides stellar desk space, but also puts on a mean workout, which is a bonus when getting our brains into gear. There’s a real sense of collective energy here – and the café’s unbeatable baklava treats help too…

London

  • X+why – for workspace with social purpose, X+why is the one. Yes, their venues are slick and spacious, but beyond a great aesthetic is a purpose-driven organisation committed to supporting impact-led businesses. With 4 sites in London and others in Birmingham and Manchester, there’s no stopping these guys.
  • Uncommon – honestly, uncommon is exactly how this place feels. From Tuesday teatime weekly treats for members, to staff that are amongst the best in the hospitality business, it’s easy to stay way past 5pm.
  • missionworks – the building is stunning, the space is ergonomically designed, and have you seen that garden room? You’d be forgiven for feeling more like you’ve entered a retreat than a co-working space. They even have a freezer packed full of tasty lunch options for workers to choose from. Yum.
  • HomeWork – these South West London workspaces feel luxuriously close to home, bringing a buzzy office environment to local high streets in Wandsworth, Fulham and Southfields. They hold regular networking events for small businesses, there’s always amazing coffee to be enjoyed – and almost always, a member’s dog hanging out too.
  • Oru Space – okay, we’re yet to try actually working here. But we have sampled some super yoga sessions, in a studio complete with a supersized ceiling sun serving a beautiful springtime glow. Watch this space as we’ll be back!

Dubai

The Bureau – a female-focused coworking space that prides itself on a welcoming, supportive and truly female-focused vibe. Fitness and vanity facilities, as well as a pumping room for new mums, all come as standard in this chic but down-to-earth space.

Cloud Spaces and Nest – both are really accessible and ideal for freelancers and digital nomads. Professional podcast facilities are a major plus (their outposts are right in the middle of Dubai’s burgeoning tech quarter).Nasab – consider yourself a culture shaper? Nasab is your workspace. It’s beautiful, it’s luxurious and it’s 100% the place to network with the influencers of the region. Applied membership only, of course!
